Something I find disconcerting...

The ominous use of the word "terminate" that has infiltrated my daily life via the hypnotic fembot voice informing all hapless passengers on the underground: "This train terminates at Seven Sisters" or, "Welcome to Kennington Station, where this train terminates."
I know, I'm a picky, paranoid American, but can't she just say "ends"?

Disconcerting, indeed! You think they would recycle the trains after they've used them... but nooo. They've got to throw away a perfectly good train when it reaches the end of the line. *tsk*

I had an answer phone once that after playing back the messages announced,
"That was... your... last... message." with a drop in tone and a slight pause at the 'last'. It always gave me the creeps.

Trains terminate at a terminus.
